The first thing I do when I wake up is make a mental list of all things I have to do that day : I’m very organised ! Then I get up and have my bathOften my best matchmaking ideas come while I’m in the bathSometimes I have a really good idea about who might be good with whom

Before I did matchmaking (媒人) , I was a social worker, but I knew I wanted to do something without bosses telling me what to do and that I am good at dealing with peopleAlso I had seen too many broken marriages and too many people go downhill because they were so lonelySo I gave up my job, did a bit of research and started the matchmaking business in 1970

Over the last few years we’ve been doing introductions throughout Europe as well as here in BritainEuropeans went to meet British peopleFor every 100 people who come to us, about 65 will settle downWe keep going until clients (委托人) find someone that they get on very well withWe’re great triersOf course there are impossible people, those who will never settle

Sometimes I end up giving advice to clientsA few months ago, we had a highly paid scientist with a very nice face, but every woman refused to meet him a second time, It soon became clear that he did not like changing his shirtsSo I had to be very honest and frank and told him, “But a woman can’t start to love you if your shirt smells” The job is most satisfying when I get a call from a couple telling me they have fallen in love

AShe worked hard and would not give up easily

BShe tried hard in doing introductions throughout Europe

CShe tried hard in doing introductions throughout Europe

DShe liked the British people to get married with the Europeans

4Who are those people who are “impossible” and “will never settle”? ______

To all of you at Chinese love links.
I am 44 years old and never married. I have always wanted to find that perfect someone that I dream about. For about the last five years I have almost given up the hope of ever finding the one I truly wish to spend the rest of my life with.
I have always tried to be a nice guy. I had found your website some four or five months before. I did not know what to expect. I don’t know how to speak Chinese and never thought truly of how I was to an Asian woman.
Well, I had a lot of replies from some very nice and pretty women. I had a hard time finding only a couple to write to. But one stood out from the rest. She was cute, nice and seemed to hold a lot of the same values as I do. In a short time I had decided to write only to her. We communicate via e-mails 2-3 times a day and phone calls once or twice a week.
I went and met her and her family only a week ago. Her name is Yun and she lives in Nanning. I found Nanning to be one of the most beautiful cities I had ever been to. We had even decided to marry and bring her to the USA under the finance visa. Not only did she meet everything I had ever hoped to find in someone else but turned out to be what every woman should be like, at least the ones I have met. We plan to marry as soon as she is here and start a family together as neither of us has children but we both want them.
So to anyone out there reading this, I can only say this: You may not find what you are looking for if you’re not honest with your partner and yourself. This site worked for me mostly because I was honest with something that I wanted in someone else. When I did find her, love can work even across the other side of the world, between language differences and cultural differences. I wish you all luck in finding your perfect match. I have finally found mine and wish to give all my thanks to those at Chinese love links to help make it happen.
Sincerely yours,
Arthur

“It was all his own idea,” says Pat Peters, the 38-year-old wife of Palo Alto California high school football coach Bob Peters.39 Bob had just drawn up a "motherhood contract"-a document(文件)stating that for 70 days this summer he would take over the care and feeding of the couple's four children, plus all household chores(雜務(wù)).Although he didn't even know how to make coffee when he signed, he was quite confident.(He thought the experience would make a nice book.)

After 40 of the 70 days, he was ready to give up.“I was beaten down, completely humbled,” admits Peters.Three weeks later he spoke to the local press(also part of the bargain), stating, “Not only is motherhood a difficult task, not only is it never-ending, it is an impossible job for any normal human being.”

Bob and Pat were high school sweethearts. After they got married in 1960, she worked as a secretary to help put iron through university.Since then Bob has been the football and wrestling coach at Palo Alto's Cubberley High while Pat raised the kids.

Then two years ago Pat went back to work as a secretary at Cubberley.“I had been around children so much,” she sighs(嘆氣).“I couldn't talk to a grown-up.” She continued to run the household, however, until Bob signed the contract, whereupon she decided to relax and enjoy it.Although Peters had consulted with his school's home economics teachers and the head of the cafeteria(食堂), his meals were sometimes a disaster.“I tried to slip the butter I'd forgotten under the eggs after they were frying,” he says. For the last three weeks, the family ate out a lot-sometimes having Macdonald's hamburgers for lunch and dinner.

As for housekeeping, a home economics teacher had told Bob that a room always looks clean if the bed is made."I found an easier way-I shut the doors," he says.Soon the kids were wearing the same clothes for a week."I made them wear their shirts inside out, and when we went to pick up Pat at work they turned them right side out so they would look clean."

Now that Bob has publicly admitted he was wrong, he is routinely(日常地)sharing the child-raising and household tasks with Pat, The tentative(暫定的)title of his book about the summer is taken from something he shouted at the kids one day.

(1)

The couple signed the contract because ________

A.

Pat complained a lot about her doing the housework all by herself

B.

Bob loved taking care of children and wanted his wife to have a good rest

C.

they agreed that husband and wife should share household tasks

[ ]

A.

pay a certain amount of money

B.

do all the housework for years

C.

say sorry to his wife

D.

admit publicly he was wrong about motherhood

(3)

[ ]

A.

B.

She was pretty and kind-hearted.

C.

She was tired of the child-raising and household tasks.

D.

She did not love Bob any longer.

“Can I see my baby?” the happy new mother asked. When the bundle was in her arms and she moved the fold of cloth to look upon his tiny face, she gasped. The doctor turned quickly and looked out of the tall hospital window. The baby had been born without ears.
Time proved that the baby’ s hearing was perfect. It was only his appearance that was imperfect. When he rushed home from school one day and threw himself into his mother’s arms, she sighed(嘆息), knowing that his life was to be misfortunate. He cried to his mum “A boy, a big boy... called me a freak (怪人).”
He grew up, handsome. A favorite with his fellow students, he might have been class president, but for that. He developed a gift, a talent for literature and music. “But you might communicate with other young people,” his mother blamed him, but felt a kindness in her heart.
Two years went by. One day, his father said to the son, “You’ re going to the hospital, son. Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need. But it’ s a secret.” The operation was a great success, and a new person appeared.
Later he married and became a lawyer. One day, he asked his father, “Who gave me the ears? Who gave me so much? I could never do enough for him or her.” “I do not believe you could,” said the father, “but the agreement was that you are not to know... not yet.”
The years kept their secret, but the day did come. He stood with his father over his mother’ s casket棺材. Slowly, tenderly, the father stretched forth a hand and raised the thick, reddish brown hair to show the mother had no outer ears.
“Mother said she was glad she never let her hair be cut,” his father whispered gently, “and nobody ever thought Mother less beautiful, did they?”
