The Spring Festival is a very important part of Chinese culture. It has another name,Chinese New Year. It's not just a big festival in China. People from all over the world also like to celebrate it. When it was added to the Intangible Cultural Heritage list,it means the whole world saw not only where it came from, but also the great ideas it has that can bring people from different places together.
This festival is like a window that shows the good things about Chinese civilization. It has the values of peace and being in harmony. During the Spring Festival, people give their best wishes for the coming year, hoping for a better life. It also shows some values that all people like, like being nice to everyone and keeping a good balance between people and nature.
▲ In Chinese culture, having a close family is very important. And this love for the family doesn't just stay at home. It goes to the neighbourhood,to the whole country, and even to other countries. That's why, every Spring Festival, millions of people in China go back to their hometowns, making it the world's largest human migration.
The Spring Festival has a lot of intangible cultural traditions. Every part of it has a long history and deep meaning. It's a time full of old stories and special customs. These customs all come from the stories that people told for a long time.
For example, setting off fireworks and putting up red things on houses and shops come from an old story about an animal called "nian". The Chinese word for "year" is also "nian". Long ago, people thought nian would come and hurt people and animals at the end of the year. But they found a way to scare it away. The story says nian was very afraid of loud noises and the colour red. So these customs started and we still do them today.
Rao Quan, who is the vice-minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and led the Chinese team at the UNESCO meeting, was very happy and said thank you for this honour. He said that having the Spring Festival on the UNESCO list would help to spread the values of peace and harmony that everyone can understand. It would also show how important the intangible cultural heritage is for our future growth. It's like a very precious thing that we should all love and protect.
