Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the world of work. A report from Brookings Institution says that 85% of work may have at least 10% of their tasks influenced by AI in the future. So, how can students make sure their skills remain important in a world with more computers? The Wall Street Journal offers some helpful tips.
AI can summarize information and write computer code, but it can't create new ideas or solve hard problems. Jobs that need communicating between people are important. For example, students can get experience by working as a waiter or volunteering at a nursing home.
Learn many things or become an expert
If you only have one skill, AI might do your job instead. So students should think about learning more than one skill, or even studying a second major. If you focus on one subject, make sure you know it better than AI. As Matthew Rascoff—a Stanford student—from Stanford says, “AI is like a B+ student—it knows some things, but humans can do more.”
Be creative
AI can handle dull and repeated tasks, but it can't create new ideas or solve hard problems. Humans will still be needed to organize projects and think creatively.
Be adaptable (有適應(yīng)能力的)
The future is uncertain, so it's important to be adaptable. Try new things, like studying abroad or taking courses that make you think differently, like acting classes.
