四、閱讀理解
Do-it-yourself projects (項(xiàng)目) let you design your house, providing a way to save money, but even with step-by-step instructions, DIY doesn't always go as planned. Here are four of the biggest mistakes that homeowners often make.
Taking on Too Much
More than 40% of people find DIY projects more difficult and expensive than they thought. By taking on a task that needs more time or skills than you have, you may end up with a big mess. "It's important to think about why you want to DIY and what you're hoping to get out of it," said Bailey Carson. "If you're doing it just to save money, you might need to think twice. Without the time, tools, and talent to do it correctly and safely, mistakes may cost you more."

A third of the people didn't know how to choose the tools for a DIY project, which can make the job more difficult and less safe. Many tools are designed for special uses and materials, so if you use them for other tasks, you may get hurt. Always use the correct tools for each project, and make sure you know how to use them.
Not Safety First
DIY mistakes can not only be costly but also dangerous. Of the survey people who once made a big mistake during DIY projects, 47% said that the mistake led to serious (嚴(yán)重的) problems, while 44% started a fire or fell off a roof or ladder (梯子).
Skipping (跳過) Important Steps
Skipping a step can end up ruining your whole DIY project and you might not know it until much later. In the survey, 47% of the people said carefully that they had finished a DIY project before knowing it was done wrong. Read all instructions carefully ahead of time, and make sure you have the necessary (必要的) skills to complete each step before you begin.

五、小練筆
What do you think of DIY? What did you once make? How do you improve your DIY skills? (At least 5 sentences)
答案:I think DIY is very interesting and meaningful. It can not only exercise our hands-on ability but also bring us a sense of achievement. Once, I made a small wooden shelf by myself. I prepared the materials first, then followed the instructions step by step. Although it was a bit difficult, I finally succeeded. To improve my DIY skills, I often watch DIY videos online and learn from others' experiences. I also practice making things in my free time. I believe that as long as I keep practicing, my DIY skills will get better and better.
